With the festive season upon us and the summer holiday in full swing, it is easy to forget that sun protection doesn’t end with your skin. Spending hours outside in the sun can impact all the hard work you’ve put into keeping your shoes looking new and fresh throughout the previous months.
Keep your shoes and health in tip-top shape with these three handy tips:
1) Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate
Shoes: Keep your shoes nourished, clean and conditioned with the Plush range of cleaning and conditioning products. The Hide Food preserves and nourishes most leather finishes, Refresh cleans and shines leather, while the Dubbin renews and conditions leather and prevents premature deterioration of shoes.
Skin: Drinking plenty of water not only ensures that you stay hydrated, but also helps to suppress your appetite, which in turn may reduce the chances of putting on extra weight. Symptoms of dehydration can include feeling exhausted and lightheaded. Dehydration puts you at risk of contracting heatstroke.
Shoes: Keep your shoes fresh and protected with the Plush range of shoe cleaning products – ideal to clean, soften, polish and nourish your suede, nubuck or leather shoes. Use the Suede, Nubuck and Leather Protector to repel water, oil and stains from your summer footwear.
Skin: Whether on the beach or at home in the pool, make sure you keep your skin protected against the harsh summer sun. Try to avoid staying out in the sun between 10am and 4pm when the sun’s rays are at its harshest. Wide-rimmed hats and wearing sunglasses are ideal to protect your face. Apply sunscreen well in advance before stepping out and use sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher to protect yourself against UVB or Ultraviolet B (the sun’s shortwave ray).
3) On-the-go maintenance
Shoes: Give shoes a refreshed look with Liquid Polish – it renews colour and dries to a vibrant, lasting shine. Simply pop off the lid, slightly squeeze the bottle and apply the liquid directly to the shoe using the sponge-tip of the bottle
Skin: Make sure you have the a first aid kit on hand during your holiday outings that contains the basics for first aid practise – plasters, distilled water for cleaning wounds, cotton swabs and cotton balls, disposable sterile gloves, anti-itch cream or lotion of insect bites, antiseptic spray or lotion to clean cuts, and bandages, lotion or ointment for burns.
